How does the plate calculator work?

It subtracts the bar weight from your target, then works out the lightest combination of plates to load on each side so both sides are balanced.

What does a standard barbell weigh?

A standard Olympic barbell weighs 20 kg (45 lb). Many gyms also have lighter training bars at 15 kg (35 lb) or 10 kg (15 lb), which you can select in the calculator.
